Tele2 Russia expands its GSM operations into 17 new regions
Stockholm - Tele2 AB ("Tele2"), (Stockholm Stock Exchange: TEL2 A and TEL2 B), Europe's leading alternative telecom operator, today announced that it has been awarded three new GSM 1800 licenses in the regions of Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Evenkia in Siberia. The three regions have a total population of 3.7 million. Tele2 plan to invest in mobile networks and launch commercial service in these regions by the end of 2009.
In addition to the three awarded licenses the tender commission has allocated an additional 14 licenses to Tele2 and it is expected that the formal award of these licenses will occur shortly. The total 17 licenses cover a population of 19.1 million.
The allocation of new GSM 1800 licenses creates the opportunity for Tele2 to remain the fastest growing mobile operator in Russia. Tele2 will, in accordance with the license terms, launch mobile networks in the awarded regions end of 2009.
